World of Warcraft Classic classes can be divided into three roles, tank, healer, and damage dealer. Different classes excel at different roles, but which class is the best tank? Tanks are a vital part of any WoW Classic dungeon or raid group. Without them a group cannot function and generally the better the tank, the smoother things go. So, this is the reason why we prepare this guide! Hope it will be helpful for you! Do not miss it!
What is Tanking?
Tanking is a gaming term that stands for a character whose main role is to absorb most of the damage by generating enough aggro (or threat). Essentially, the tank in a group is the player who has to keep his fellow party members from being attacked by the enemy.
Tanking Strategies and Pros/Cons for Each Tanking Class
To make our WoW Classic tanking guide complete, we’ll give you the pros and cons of each so that you can choose the right tanking class for your needs!
1. Protection Warrior
*Pros:
– Second to none tanking abilities such as Shield Wall & Last Stand
– Exceptional mitigation and threat-generating abilities
– The go-to class for tanking in Classic WoW
*Cons:
– Not as good as Paladins at generating AoE aggro
Protection Warriors are by far the best tank in WoW Classic, and some players even consider them to be the only real tank as they are the only class able to reduce the damage they take. A tank’s role is to keep enemies attacking them and to stay alive. Out of all three tank classes, Warriors are the best at this due to a large arsenal of abilities such as Shield Wall, Last Stand, and Taunt.
Warriors are able to keep themselves alive and keep enemies attacking them far longer than other classes, thus earning the #1 spot for tanks in Classic.
2. Feral Druid
*Pros:
– Aggro-generation that’s comparable to that of Warriors
– The highest armor values from all tanking classes
*Cons:
– Lacks defensive cooldown abilities e.g. Shield Wall
Feral Druids are the second-best tanks in the game. This is because they lack the on demand damage reduction of a Warrior, but are still able to keep enemies attacking them, and reduce a fair amount of damage taken due to having large amounts of armor.
They also provide a lot of useful utility as they can reduce an enemy’s armor through Faerie Fire and can increase allies critical strike chance thanks to their talents.
Druids are often used in raid groups as an ‘off tank’ – a secondary tank that takes pressure off of the ‘main tank’ which is usually a Warrior that is focusing the biggest threat.
3. Protection Paladin
*Pros:
– Brilliant at generating AoE threat
– Self-heal, self-preservation abilities
*Cons:
– Doesn’t have Taunt
– Not a viable option for end game tanking
Protection Paladins can often be found as supporting (or secondary) tanks in party and raid groups and on rare occasions they can even be seen as main tanks. However, even though Paladins carry plate mail just like Warriors, they lack crucial threat-holding abilities such as Taunt. Still, Paladins have plenty of useful abilities and talent specs to help them in tanking scenarios.
Above are the best tanks for WoW Classic. Warriors are your best bet for all group content, meanwhile, Druids and Paladins can be good alternatives, especially in five-man dungeons. If you want to take on the toughest raids like Molten Core and Onyxia’s lair, you’re best off bringing a Warrior tank. As is known, World of Warcraft Classic Gold is the crucial currency in the gameplay! which can be used to purchase equipment, pets, and items in Auction House. So, if you want to get remarkable tanks, Warcraft Classic Gold can help you a lot!
