On March 25, Epic Games announced their roadmap for the upcoming
Fortnite World Cup on March 25 in a blog post. Along with the post, the game developer also revealed to Fortnite players that a a ranked mode, named
Arena Mode would be added to the game in the upcoming V8.20 game patch. The blog post also emphasized on the fact that this mode will not be an LTM as it will be "Always On." The details about this new game mode suggest that the mode will be divided into certain "leagues" and that players can qualify for the weekend Online Opens through it. “This is your chance to qualify for the weekend Online Opens. Players can compete on their own schedule to try and progress to the Champion League in the brand new Arena game mode releasing in v8.20. if you can climb to the top,you’ll unlock access to the Fortnite Wold Cup Online Open tournaments.”
As you can see from the description above, we know that this new ranked mode would not be a limited time mode and will be permanently added to the game, offering both casual players and professional players a chance to Fortnite World Cup. How Will Fortnite World Cup Tournaments Work ?
Each weekend will kick off with the Online Open Semi-Finals on Saturday. The Semi-Finals will run for 3hours. During the 3 hours, players have to play 10 matches and attempt to earn as many points as possible. The top 3,000 players with highest score in each region will then advance to the Online Open Finals which happen on Sunday.
During the Open Finals every players’ score will reset and they’ll once again have three hours to play 10 matches. The top finishers will receive a portion of the $1 million prize pool and a few select players will earn a qualification spot for the World Cup in New York City on July 26-28.
