Rainbow Six Siege Drops Automatic Bans Now and Implement A New Chat Filter System
Earlier this year, Ubisoft implemented
an strict automatic ban system in Rainbow Six Siege so that players who drop racist or homophobic slurs in chat will be punished with an automatic timeout (or permanent ban for repeat offenders). However, now the developers are solving the problem with a slightly softer approach with
a simpler chat filter system soon. Now, messages that trigger the language filter simply won’t be appear in chat, but they will be sent along to the moderation team for manual review. It’s not clear whether auto-bans have been entirely removed and the new chat filter system is slated to drop sometime later from December 10, according to the latest update.
Ubisoft says the change comes after it found the system to be "intrusive to the gameplay of other players not engaging in the inappropriate activity," even though it did manage to reduce toxic behavior.
Brand director Alexandre Remy said a couple of months later that Ubisoft had "no regrets" about banning toxic players, but added that the feature would "evolve … to be a little more flexible" in the future.
The new chat filter system behaves similarly to other popular games, where the offending message is not sent out to other players but is blocked. The player will then receive a private message from the server saying that “the following message was not sent and will be reviewed for inappropriate conduct,” along with a note on the specific word used, as you can see in the following:
The following message was not sent and will be reviewed for inappropriate conduct:*word used*
Ubisoft says that it hopes this more transparent system will encourage players to be vigilant with the language they are using,as Ubisoft says in developer blog as following:
“The goal of the chat filter is to encourage players to be vigilant with the language they are using without immediately disrupting other players,” “While we valued the performance against toxicity that the auto-ban system brought, we also wanted to provide a more transparent feedback system to our players. The chat filter system will not only give direct feedback to players who are using toxic language, but will continue to allow us to provide appropriate sanctions to offending players.”
This pretty directly addresses the largest part of the community’s concern over the toxic chat filter, as it puts the onus of issuing bans on human moderators rather than making those suspensions automatic. The new filter system lets players know exactly what word in their flagged messages is setting the system off, giving them a chance to avoid using it in future. In a world, the new system looks to be better all around. By the way, you can buy

However, toxic Rainbow Six Siege players won't be going scot-free just because their chat was filtered, as it seems Ubisoft will be manually looking into the chatlogs of offenders to hand out temporary and permanent bans. So those players that are being legitimately awful will better watch their behavior in the game.
