RELEASE DATE
While the NBA 2K21 release date has not yet been locked in, it should drop in early September if history is anything to go by. The last four editions all dropped between September 6 and September 20 in their respective years. NBA 2K21: Release Date, Cover Star, Trailer, PS5, Xbox Series X. Those dates are a handy guide when it comes to predicting the next release for current consoles, while a next-gen version will drop when the PS5 and Xbox Series X drop later in the year. Last year, there were multiple NBA 2K20 cover athletes. Lakers star Anthony Davis graced the cover of the standard edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. Again, Dwyane Wade appeared on the Legend Edition. Another largely successful game mode in the NBA 2K series, including the most recent NBA 2K20, is the squad building MyTEAM. It has had its fair share of controversy last year. In order to encourage participation, players are rewarded with mini-games such as drop the ball or spin the wheel. Combining these casino-style mini-games with the ability to spend real money to purchase packs in an attempt to better your team has caused outrage amongst the community, who believe that 2K are promoting gambling to a young audience. Could we see these mini-games removed in 2K21? There are certainly a lot of microtransactions in MyTEAM, meaning it is tough for casual players to compete with those willing to invest some extra money into the game. It’s not uncommon, but with the game alone priced at £59.99 for the standard edition or £89.99 for the legend edition on release, there shouldn’t be a need to pay big amounts of money for success.

Better AI, especially late in games, features high on NBA 2K21 fan wishlists. “I can’t count the times I've jumped into a down-to-the-wire game, in the last minute or during overtime to find the stupidest lineups on the floor,” writes kainsta929. “Dwight Howard at PG with no LeBron James or Anthony Davis, or [for the Rockets] James Harden on the bench – only to check in with five seconds left, when down by more than 10. [Then you have] teams calling time out, then calling again it the play after. Waiting ages then chucking up some stupid shot. Setting up to play through a star player, then that star player only attempting 5 shots in a game. Small things like that really sour the game.”
