How do Class Mods Work?
Class Mods are one of the pieces of equipment that you can put on your vault hunter to increase their effectiveness in battle. However, they don’t blow up (sorry Torque), nor do you shoot them. Instead, they enhance one of your skills. When you look at a one, you’ll see that it’s increasing a skill(s) by a certain amount of points. What this means is that the mod is literally adding a skill point to that skill provided you have it equipped on your character. So if you have zero points invested in something, and a class mod adds +1 to to it, now you have 1 point invested in it. If you have 3, it goes to 4. They can also bring your skills over the usual cap as well and is the only way to do so. So if you’re 5/5 on something, you can 6/5 or more.
 
How to unlock class mods
Thankfully, the class mod slot in Borderlands 3 is unlocked fairly early on in the game. You will unlock the ability to use class mods after you reach Promethea and defeat Gigamind. This is part of the Hostile Takeover quest that starts basically as soon as you arrive on the planet. After defeating Gigamind and returning to Lorelei and handing over the mind, you will unlock the class mod slot. Chances are you will already have quite a few class mods in your possession. Class mods become available around the time you leave Pandora and arrive on Promethea. It can be a good idea to quickly kill Gigamind, and then focus on the various side quests, that way your backpack and bank aren’t getting overrun with class mods you can’t yet use.
 
How to Get More Class Mods
Once you’ve earned your first Class Mod, the sky’s the limit! You’ll start to get random drops of Class Mods for defeating enemies, and from opening crates. The Golden Chest on Sanctuary will start to spawn them too, and you’ll be able to buy them from vending machines. You’ll need to keep an eye out for them while playing, and make sure to check them before discarding.
 
Buy Class Mods from vending machines
Sometimes you’ll find Class Mods for different characters in Borderlands 3.  While you won’t be able to use them with your current character, you can bank them, and then access them with the character that can use them. Class mods can also be sold at vending machines.
