Aiming for a more technical play and offensive combat style in Kingdom Hearts 3, the game developers plans to introduce a new mode,
a super hard Critical Mode to the game. Compared to Proud mode, players
have a lower health bar, as well as meting out and receiving double damage. to the game. So, when will this new mode be available? How to unlock the new mode? What’s to expect from the new mode? And so on. We’ll cover all those questions in this guide, so keep on reading.
What’s new about Critical Mode?
Compared with Proud Mode, the new Kingdom Hearts 3 Critical Mode is more of a technical-centric difficulty. Players will need to utilize literally everything at their disposal in order to overcome the challenge.
In this case, Cooking is very important all of the sudden. Fans will have to take advantage of elements like cooking to survive, as cooked meals will bring up Sora’s stats and make battles easier, which is never very necessary in the traditional modes.
Timing blocks and counters in Critical Mode is, well, critical. Enemy AI will also be tweaked to maximize challenge without making it unbeatable.
Button-mashing won’t lead anywhere, and the in-game power-ups won’t be as frequent, either.
There will also be drastic stat changes. For example, Kingdom Hearts 2’s critical mode started players with 50 AP points, more AP points were awarded on level up, and players dealt 1.25x damage over standard difficulty.
When will Critical Mode be out and how to unlock it?
Longtime fans of the series will notice that Critical mode is strangely absent from the list. Even after completing the main game critical is still nowhere to be found, so where is it?
In Kingdom Hearts III Critical Mode does not exist, the developers instead tweaked the other difficulties to help customize every tier of difficulty furthermore. For example, the game gives you the Zero Exp ability from the start if you don’t want to level up Sora. Players can also further customize Party AI and have them not Heal You, which gives another tier of challenge.
Critical mode is not currently in the game but could be seen down the line potentially in a patch.
So as of right now Proud is essentially the stand-in for Critical as the hardest difficulty in the game. Hopefully the folks over at the Osaka studio have plans to bring it as DLC in the future, but for now Kingdom Hearts III Critical Mode does not exist.
