I see many players get confused with the concept of Awakening, Boost And Stars in Evertale. As the game doesn’t explain them, therefore in this guide, I’ll explain each of them specifically. So, be sure to read on. And if you are in need of

As with Awakening, Awakening raises the level cap of you monster. Common monsters are easier to find and thus awakening them to higher levels is much easier than say and sr or ssr monster. It’s a way for common monsters to somewhat compete with sr and ssr monsters after a few awakenings. You can only awaken max 4 times. So every monster/hero can only get (4*5) = 20 extra levels. However,I think the numbers might be slightly different based off rarity but it’s about right.
Boosts are something you can summon characters with in the friend point summon. Boosts acts like stat increases and you can fuse a character (let’s say character 1) with a character with a boost (character 2) to give character 1 an increase in boost (arbitrary stat points per 1 level of boost) equal to the boost level of character 2. In short, it buffs your stats and you will only really start interacting with boosts after you start Act 2 and begin earning enough friendship points.
In conclusion, boost is used to increase the stats of your char. Common monsters cannot be boosted or awakened. Only Rare and higher. You can get them two ways. Some char you summon using gems will come with boosts. You can see if they have boosts on the final screen of the summon page. The blue icon in the top right corner of each char portrait will tell you how many boosts that char has.
The second way is friend summon which uses friend points obtained through campaign rewards or using someone’s mercenary or others using yours. The friend summon is found in the second and third summon screen and can be reached by swiping to the left on the gem summon. Friend point summon is the best way to get boosts. I usually get 1 or 2 on a few of the chars from the 10 draw.
Stars literally state rarity and are an extremely vague method to represent power. If there is a “missing” looking star then that can be earned via leveling up (story characters) of ultra evolved (the rest of characters). If there are four solid silver stars on a character (for example), there is no method to get them a fifth or sixth stars currently.
As for the PvP comment, at low rank, you will have a lower max cost for your team. If you raise your rank, you can raise the max cost for your team and thus carry more characters (each character has a certain cost as well as weapons and you may not go over the cost even if you have open/empty slots and a number of characters to fill those slots).
As for tips: catch all unique monsters and be on the lookout for them. Whenever you see a new patch of grass wait about 30 seconds to see if some of the grass starts shaking. If you mess up catching the unique monster, don’t worry. Just wait another 30 seconds to catch it again. For power up quests, do the daily elemental quest to get items to evolve your characters later or player rank up quests for gold (gives about the same amount of gold as the gold quest).
