The Malfeasance in Destiny 2 is the reward you get for completing the “Darkness in the Light” Exotic quest. You get this quest after defeating a Primeval in Gambit. And yes, unfortunately, you’ll have to play a fair bit of Gambit to get it. Once you get the quest, the first step will be to defeat 25 Taken bosses or mini-bosses anywhere in the game. After you’ve done the first step, you’ll need to complete The Corrupted Strike, which isn’t so bad. But then once that’s done, you’ve got to win 10 Gambit matches and bank a total of 400 motes. This is the most tedious part of the quest but stay strong, and you’ll get it done. The last step is to either defeat three Invaders in Gambit or 25 Guardians in Crucible. And once that’s done, all you need to do is head over to the Drifter to claim the Exotic. After that, you can add the Malfeasance to the rest of your growing collection in Destiny 2.

Once players have managed to get Malfeasance, if they didn't have it already, they will need to complete either Vanguard Ops, Crucible matches, or Gambit matches. Essentially, the Malfeasance Catalyst is a random drop from these playlists. Bear in mind, however, that it is random whether the Catalyst will drop or not. Some players will get lucky and have it drop after one activity, while others may not get it for weeks on end (if not months). The drop rate does not change. Even in a Nightfall or Grandmaster Nightfall, the chance of getting the Malfeasance Catalyst will remain the same.

 

The Function of The Malfeasance Catalyst in Destiny 2

With the Catalyst acquired, the player must now defeat 500 enemies with the gun to complete it. 500 enemies may seem like a lot, but venturing over to good ol’ Shuro Chi in the Last Wish Raid will get the job done in no time at all. When the final enemy is dead, the Catalyst will be completed and can be fully socketed into the gun. With it, Malfeasance now gains access to the Vorpal Weapon perk. Vorpal Weapon deals extra damage to bosses and enemies on vehicles.

 

It’s hard to say off the initial look if Vorpal Weapon will save the gun, but there are definitely some new open doors that the weapon can take with it. For example, a Hunter wearing the Lucky Pants Exotic leg piece would be an excellent fit for the gun, as with Vorpal Weapon; this combo has the possibility to shred down bosses with minimal effort. Either way, only time will tell whether or not Malfeasance will rise the ranks in usage with its new Catalyst.
