What’s the Function of Catalyst in Destiny 2?

Aside from the usual Orb generating effect — which is, to be fair, a huge deal — the Arbalest catalyst gives you extra handling and increases the magazine size. Oh, and it also tacks on the Genesis perk for extra measure. So now not only will it pierce through shields, dealing some damage straight through to the enemy’s health, but when you do break a shield with Arbalest, the magazine will be filled from reserves.

 

Keep in mind that the gun has Disruption Break, which makes foes more vulnerable to Kinetic damage for a brief period after destroying an enemy’s shields. Now you get two bonuses instead of just one! With all of these changes and upgrades, it’s safe to say that Arbalest will now be a super reliable weapon in high-level Nightfalls.

 

How to Obtain the Arbalest Catalyst in Destiny 2

The catalyst will now need to be upgraded before it can be properly used. Players will need to get quite a few kills with the weapon, at an estimated 500 total kills. These don't need to be precision kills, but given the weapon's somewhat lengthy charge time, it can take some practice to get used to hitting targets.

 

The main challenge will be getting enough Special ammo to keep farming for the catalyst. Players who aren't in a hurry can hop into any activity with a bunch of enemies and pop on some ammo finder mods and just go to town. However, for those looking to be more efficient, loading up Shuro-Chi's encounter in the Last Wish raid is by far the best strategy to warm catalysts for weapons that require either Heavy ammo or Special ammo.

 

The Arbalest Catalyst randomly drops through playlist activities, such as Nightfalls, Crucible matches, and Gambit, but again, it's completely random.

 

Just like most catalyst level up requirements, you need to eliminate a set number of enemies to unlock the Arbalest Catalyst's full potential. This one requires you to kill 500 enemies, and you have to use the Arbalest to do it.

 

There's no location or activity requirement, though, so you're free to do this wherever you like. Obviously, activities with plenty of enemies are ideal, but if you want to do things more efficiently, take the Arbalest into Dares of Eternity. You'll get Treasure Keys and Strange Coins, along with progress toward unlocking the Catalyst.

 

The Arbalest catalyst should be a top priority for any hardcore PVE Destiny 2 player. Although fusion rifles are not meta in season 16, the Arbalest's ability to do basically two jobs at once is what makes it incredibly powerful.

 

Rather than players choosing random weapons to counter elemental shields in difficult PVE activities, Arbalest simply covers them all, on top of intrinsically being able to delete Barrier Champion shields. This means players will need to apply one less artifact mod on their loadout as well.
