In this week’s Fallout 76: Inside the Vault, the studio outlines some of the changes it is working on that will be coming in January and beyond. It seems that the game developer is preparing to
launch a new PVP mode that
let's players take on the wasteland without restrictions. According to the dev’s official blog post, the unnamed new mode will launch at some point during the first quarter of 2019. Here are some further details of the new PVP mode.
As we know, Fallout 76's current PvP is a mess and received negative reviews from players. The game can only be played on randomly matchmade servers (unless you choose to manually jump into a friend's game) and Bethesda curbed the online bloodbaths this entails in many other games with an impromptu duel system. In the current PVP mode, to flag as PvP, you have to do damage to another player. But this initial damage is negligible. If the person you've fired at fires back, then it's on. But why bother? Die from PvP and you respawn nearby, ready to go again with no real harm done. Win at PvP and you get some caps. If you tune in to the Hunter/Hunted radio broadcast, you queue for a dedicated PvP mode. As a fallout 76 player myself, even if I have been in the game tens of hours of time - it never managed to gather the four players required to kick things off. The whole PVP mode is just an odd dueling system. There's nothing interesting about it, and so it's understandable hardly anyone does it. Wanna higher rank in Fallout 76? come and buy

And now, Bathesda decided to do something to change it.“We’re also hard at work on a new mode where you can work together, or not, without PVP restrictions," said the studio in a recent blog post. "We’re already having fun playing it at the office and we’re hopeful to roll it out to all of you sometime in the first quarter of the year.”it reads on the dev’s official blog posts.
That's no more details on the new pvp mode, but the only PvP restriction I can currently think of is that in order to instigate real PvP, the player you're attacking has to fight back. If they don't, they won't take full damage from your attacks, and if you continue to attack them you'll eventually get a bounty. If they drop that 'shoot back' requirement, that means your first attack on another player would deal full damage, allowing the opportunity for stealth attacks and ambushes. It will be interesting to see if the stakes are raised a bit more in this new PvP mode by allowing players to take more than just junk from the players they kill.
However, the new game mode is only one of many changes ahead. The team also teased a few other changes.
"Our sights are set for future updates," reads a post on Bethesda's site. "In mid-January, we will be releasing another patch that contains many fixes, including fixes for the Lever-Action Rifle reload animation, some perk cards, and we’re dealing some crowd control at the Whitespring by implementing a fix for the robots duplicating on the resort grounds."
So, hopefully, we can see a better and more enjoyable Fallout 76 in the next year.
